Do It
Youself
Don't worry if you don't have a green thumb or an artsy-craftsy talent for
turning simple dandelions into wildflower bouquets. You can save lots of money
and time by trying some of these easy, do it yourself tips.
Daisy Halos. Homemade flower girl headpieces are a delight. Daisies strung
together in a tight halo are a classic, not to mention inexpensive to make.
Pick up a bunch of daisies at your local florist or flower stand, and try making
halos one weekend while you're basking in engagement heaven. Just don't wait
until the wedding weekend to experiment.
Homemade Centerpieces. Use a coat of paint from your wedding colors to spruce
up your everyday nursery planters. For your morning-after brunch or shower centerpieces,
plant some blooming tulip bulbs or narcissus in small painted pots, and fill
the arrangement with moss purchased at your local nursery. Presto!
You can create a tropical atmosphere by decorating your site with lush plants,
palms, kiwis and coconuts. Instead of bouquets, tuck a giant red hibiscus behind
every bridesmaid's ear and create a sun-kissed beach-themed wedding.
No Arrangement Necessary. Romantic touches such as floating gardenias and candles
set the mood for the guests' powder room. Save money by avoiding expensive arrangements
when you can dazzle with minimal effort.
Zesty Place Card Holders. You can create great accessories for your guest tables
without spending a lot of money on flowers. Use lemons, limes, walnuts or rocks
for place card holders. Paint names on flat rocks, or insert hand-painted cards
into a lemon cut in half (or in the crack of a walnut).
Blooming Buckets. Fill galvanized pails, assorted pitchers and glass vases
with a single type of flower at each table. Figure approximately 1-2 bundles
per centerpiece. For a spring look, try arranging hyacinths, tulips or narcissus
in different colors at each table. |
